These beathing problems are quite common in rats , mice , guinea pigs and other rodents , they are usually caused by viral infections but made worse by obesity, dusty litter and poor hygiene. It is important to use a dust free bedding like shredded paper or card board and change it regularly as the urine soaked into it will give off ammonia which iritates the nasal and lung passage ways.Antibiotics given into the mouth are better than given via the water . If these do not work we usually nebulise the drugs
